Short Bio

Virginia Guidi – singer, actress, vocal performer, writer, composer-performer and vocal coach – has been described by journalist M. Gamba as a “vocal explorer”.
She is PhD candidate at the Conservatory of L’Aquila, counsellor of the Scelsi Foundation and member of Nuova Consonanza. She has developed a strong theatrical background studying J. Lecoq method.
She has graduated in opera singing and vocal chamber music and she has specilized cum laude in vocal chamber music, sonica arts and contemporay music with special training in contemporary singing and in sound arts and electroacoustic music.
She has collaborated with prestigious institutions and she has performed at major international festivals in Italy and abroad. She has performed numerous works by twentieth-century composers but she has also collaborated with numerous composers, frequently performing world premieres and works dedicated to her.
Since 2019, she has given seminars and workshops on performance and vocality and also works as a vocal coach with actors and dancers.
Her recordings have been released by EMA Vinci (2021), ACEL (2022), False Walls (2023), DA VINCI Classics (2024), Sargasso (2026).

Extended Biography

Virginia Guidi is a versatile and multifaceted artist-performer working as a mezzo-soprano, contemporary singer, composer-performer, writer, vocal coach, actress and improviser. In 2019, she won the 4th Michiko Hirayama Scholarship for contemporary singers.

Described by journalist M. Gamba as an “explorer”, her artistic research focuses on the expansion of vocal language through experimentation, interdisciplinary practice and contemporary performance. She works across classical, 20th-century and contemporary repertoires, developing an extended and flexible vocal approach.

She is Councillor at the Fondazione Isabella Scelsi and a member of Nuova Consonanza. She is currently a PhD candidate in Music Research, focusing on contemporary vocal repertoire at the Conservatorio “A. Casella” in L’Aquila.

She trained as an actress following the Jacques Lecoq method and in Lyric Singing and Chamber Vocal Music at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome.
She later obtained the Diplôme de Concert in Contemporary Singing in Montbéliard (France) with N. Isherwood and studied electroacoustic music for performers at the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia with M. Lupone.
She's also specialized cum laude: Master's Degree Programme in Chamber Vocal Music, a Second-Level University Master in Contemporary Music Interpretation (Santa Cecilia Conservatory) and First-Level University Master in Sonic Arts at Tor Vergata University.

She has collaborated with prestigious institutions such as ETI, Accademia “Silvio D’Amico”, Accademia di Danza, Deutsche Akademie Rom, Real Academia de España, FIS, Fondazione Cini, Nuova Consonanza and Fondazione Teatro di Roma. She has performed at major international festivals (Accademia Filarmonica Romana, EMUfest, Biennale di Venezia, RESIS, Termoli Festival, Milano Pianocity, ArteScienza, San Leo Festival, MA/IN, ElettroAQustica). She has also collaborated with famous visual artists (Allora&Calzadilla, T. De Falco, C. Caloro).

She has performed in Italy and abroad (Beijing, Berlin, Chemnitz, Frankfurt, Madrid, Marseille, Montbéliard, München, Paris, San Marino, Santiago de Compostela, Washington, D.C.). She has performed numerous works by twentieth-century composers, including L. Berio, C. Berberian, M. Feldman, D. Guaccero, E. Macchi, E. Morricone, L. Nono, G. Scelsi, K. Stockhausen, I. Stravinsky and K. Weill. She has also collaborated with numerous composers, frequently performing world premieres and works dedicated to her. Since 2015 she has been a member of Voxnova Italia. She collaborates with leading contemporary ensembles and is active in improvisation, musical theatre and interdisciplinary performance. She is also a writer and has published poetry, short stories and librettos.

Since 2019, she has given seminars and workshops on performance and contemporary vocality (Conservatorio “A. Casella”, Saint Louis College of Music, PIMS, Conservatorio “L. Refice”, University of Rome Tor Vergata) and also works as a vocal coach with actors and dancers.
